I think he just gave a pretty favorable for the money review of the new HF model. I'd love to have a tig machine, but I really don't need one, so I haven't been able to justify it yet.

GD is talented. If you are butt hurtable, someone will hurt your butt. Miller DialArc? Big machine and not great for Aluminum but can be found cheap and fixed if they break. Just make sure you get the tig pedal with the machine because they are not common. Welcome to Arizona. Now go home. This is what I will be buying myself for xmas. As in, the actual lowest setting? Don't know about OP's needs, but if one expects to be welding mostly aluminum, would HF start be considered a must-have? I bought the previous version of the AlphaTig about three years ago.
I had about 30 minutes of actual welding time on it when it quit. I've been learning to tig weld stainless with it lately and it's been working fine. Do not go gentle into that good night, go cocked and locked. I've had an Everlast DX for 4 years now and it works well.

I am not a heavy user so I can't comment on durability, but in terms of performance, it is really impressive for the price, nice stable arc and lots of features. Stay Connected. Do I expect it to be as well built as a Miller or Lincoln? Probably not, but it's held up fine so far, and for the price I paid if it makes the warranty period I'm money ahead. I saw the new Horrible Freight Vulcans, duty cycle is absolutely terrible, which is a pretty good indicator of how well it's built. Have you tried the pulse or frequency settings on stick? Pretty cool. View Quote How does it perform on the low end of the amp range? Fairplay Gun What Gun?
View Quote I think the mig setup at work can actually tig or so it was explained to me it could. You just need a TIG torch, power block, regulator, and gas bottle. Loving this thread. So thicker materials. And with the inverter type tigs, both Lincoln and Miller, have the same issue of cooking their boards when they over heat from duty cycle. AlphaTIG X Came to post this, got one of these a couple years ago and it's been great, thick or thin, steel, stainless, aluminum. I havent bought one yet but the AHP is what I am getting in the next couple of months.
I don't tig a lot and have a DC tig setup but would like to do aluminum occasionally. I dont feel the need to drop on a process I dont use very often and the AHP seems solid.
How does it perform on the low end of the amp range? Very well. I don't normally make recommendations, but I don't think you can find a better TIG machine for the money. I use high frequency start even on mild steel and stainless makes a cleaner start. Smooth arc easy to use. Great welder. Uses lower amperage than previous welder to do same work. So much simpler to use than old welder and much faster than MIG gasless. Small counter space required. Highly recommend. Only wish the cables were longer than 10'. Have changed already.
